Strong organizations grow from strong foundations.

How We Can Help

Root - The Assessment

Understand what is underneath.

A structured review of your organization across seven areas that shape its ability to do and sustain its work using the 7-S framework: Strategy, Services, Structure, Systems, Stewardship, Solidarity, and Sustainability. Through document review and conversations with the people closest to the work, we identify where growth or change is creating strain, and what should be addressed first.

Assessment: A written report and presentation identifying prioritized findings and recommendations.

Canopy - The Cultivate Program

Give leaders room to grow.

Leadership development grounded in the realities of mission-driven legal work. We help leaders navigate the real tensions that come with new responsibility: moving from peer to supervisor, from expert to leader, from practitioner to a leader who's still carrying a caseload, with practical support, not generic theory.

Canopy Leadership Sessions: four 90-minute sessions for a leader or small group, built around a real leadership challenge as well as individual sessions based on organizational needs and opportunities.

Trunk - The Resillience Build

Build for what comes next.

Hands-on organizational and program design work. We work alongside your team to turn a defined challenge into something that works in practice: a new program, a redesigned structure, stronger supervision, new tools and workflows. The scope is shaped around your goals and priorities, not a predetermined checklist.

Scoped to fit the work. From a single, focused change to a major organizational shift.

Grove - The Collaborative Design

Grow stronger together.

Some work belongs to more than one organization. We help groups clarify what they're trying to accomplish together and build the relationships and structures: governance, shared funding, referral systems, that let that shared work actually work. Grounded directly in our own experience building the Midwest Immigrant Defenders Alliance.

For a new collaboration, or to strengthen one already underway.

For Funders and Philanthropy

Invest in what makes the work possible.

A grant can create an opportunity. The right support can help an organization become capable of sustaining it.

LaurelRoot works with funders and philanthropic organizations to understand what an investment will require, identify organizational capacity needs, and help turn promising ideas into functioning, sustainable work.

“We wished we’d had a sounding board like this when we were building our own organizations—someone who could help us step back, see what was really happening, and think through what needed to change. Because the systems that work today won’t necessarily work tomorrow. Growth changes things. We want to be the people we wish we’d had alongside us as we built, adapted, and built again.”
