LaurelRoot grew out of a shared belief between two nonprofit leaders: organizations doing important work deserve the support, systems, and leadership capacity to grow without losing sight of why they exist.
We know what it means to build programs when the need is urgent, resources are limited, and there isn't a roadmap.
We've been the people making the decisions, building the teams, navigating the growing pains, bringing organizations together, and figuring out what has to change when the way you've always done things no longer works.
Now we're bringing that experience to organizations ready to build what's next.
We didn’t start our Careers advising organizations from the outside.
We started by doing the work ourselves.
Over the course of our careers, we found ourselves facing many of the same challenges our clients face today. Organizations were growing faster than their systems could keep up. People were stepping into leadership without necessarily having the support to grow into those roles. Good ideas needed to become functioning programs, and organizations that wanted to work together had to figure out what that actually meant in practice.
We learned that having a strong mission isn't enough.
Good intentions don't create sustainable systems. Growth doesn't automatically create capacity. And a strategic plan doesn't implement itself.
Building something that lasts takes thoughtful design, honest assessment, strong relationships, capable leadership, and the willingness to make difficult decisions.
We've spent our careers learning how to do exactly that.
